INSTITUTIONAL DISTINCTIVENESS- SPARSHAM
Sparsham: Nurturing a Compassionate Society
Sparsham is an initiative undertaken by our institution, dedicated to supporting the elderly, visually impaired, differently-abled, and emotionally or intellectually challenged individuals. This program, driven by student volunteers, emphasizes care, support, and compassion. By engaging in activities such as feeding, providing necessary items, offering home care through palliative clinics, and raising funds, Sparsham aims to create a society that values emotional and material well-being over material gains.
Primary Objective:
- To cultivate a community environment that values empathy, understanding, and mutual support.
- To promote inclusivity, facilitate open communication, and offer resources for mental and emotional health.
- To create a society that is more connected and compassionate.
ACTIVITIES
- Feeding and Sharing Meals
One of the primary activities of Sparsham is visiting old age homes and feeding the residents. This not only ensures that they receive nutritious meals but also provides them with companionship. Student volunteers prepare meals and spend time with the elderly, sharing stories and creating a bond that alleviates their loneliness.
- Donation of Essential Items
Understanding the needs of these vulnerable groups, Sparsham organizes donation drives to collect essential items such as clothes, medicines, and hygiene products. These items are then distributed to old age homes, special schools, and individuals in need. By fulfilling these basic needs, Sparsham helps improve their quality of life.
- Palliative Care and Home Visits
Sparsham extends its care through palliative clinics and home care visits. Trained volunteers and medical professionals visit the homes of those who are bedridden or unable to move, providing medical care, emotional support, and companionship. This aspect of Sparsham ensures that even the most isolated individuals receive attention and care.
- Fundraising Activities
To sustain its various activities, Sparsham organizes fundraising events within the campus and the community. These events include bake sales, charity runs, and cultural programs, with all proceeds directed towards the initiative. The funds raised are used to purchase medical supplies, food, and other necessities for those under Sparsham’s care.
- Visits to Special Schools
Sparsham volunteers also visit special schools like Buds School, where they engage with intellectually challenged and differently-abled children. Activities include organizing fun and educational programs, playing games, and providing learning materials. These interactions help in building a supportive environment for these children, fostering their intellectual and emotional growth.
Impact on Society
The impact of Sparsham extends beyond immediate relief and care. By involving students in these activities, Sparsham instills a sense of social responsibility and empathy in the younger generation. The initiative aims to create a society that prioritizes the well-being of all its members, promoting values of compassion, empathy, and selflessness.
Moral and Ethical Foundations
The foundational principle of Sparsham is to support moral values over material gains. In a world increasingly driven by material success, Sparsham stands out by emphasizing the importance of emotional and moral well-being. This principle is not only preached but practiced by the entire campus community, setting an example for others to follow.
Remarks
